- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very good - What previous guests thought, 644 reviewsThe location never stopped surprising us. The artwork in the main building was an unexpected treat. The upstairs bar made me double check what we had actually paid for the stay because the decor and architecture was so luxurious - fit for a queen! The outdoor space with kayaks and bicycles were a lovely optional extra. There were deer in the forest and the sunsets (that last for hours in spring) over the water were incredible. The beds were lovely and floofy and the additional lounge area was wonderful to expand into after our smaller Stockholm hotels. The staff were also super chatty and gave us a lot of their time which we enjoyed immensely. There is also a parking lot outside where we could recharge our rental vehicle with an app to pay for the charge. We had a wonderful time and wish we had stayed there longer. We stayed for 2 nights, checked out and stayed for most of the day at the restaurant over looking the water and chatting.Guest review byStaceySouth Africa
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.4Very good - What previous guests thought, 353 reviewsLocated on the gorgeous island of Grinda, just a two hour ferry ride from Stockholm, Grinda Wärdshus provides the perfect setting for a lovely get away! A short walk on a bucolic path from the ferry stop sits the beautiful hotel with views to the quaint harbor. Staff is very friendly and professional. Rooms are located in sweet red Swedish buildings, offering cozy beds and modern bathrooms. Food is stellar at both the restaurant on site as well as the cafe at the harbor. Get the Arctic char or seafood stew! Breakfast is a treat as well. Great hiking trails surround the hotel. Grinda is a special place in the archipelago.Guest review byLisaUnited States
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 223 reviewsA magical place. A direct view of the sea, with ships passing literally right next to you. Very friendly and courteous staff, delicious food, and spotlessly clean rooms. Whatever I write, it still won’t be enough to capture how special this place truly is. I can’t wait to come back here — and stay longer next time.Guest review byMaciejPoland
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.6Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 45 reviewswe had rented a Cottage near the mainhouse. Very quiet, only short walking distance to the restaurant. Staff very friendly and helpful. Nice walkways on the island and a small beach. Easy to spend a couple of relaxing days. Ferries go to the neighbouring Islands regularly, shopping only possible in Gräddö.Guest review byDirkGermany

Room has bedsheets and a towel for you to use. Also fridge and sink. Kitchen looked big, unfortunately I didn’t have time to use it. The hostel is very close to the harbor.Guest review byUlla-RiinEstonia

We loved swimming in the sea.
We loved swimming in the sea. A bit cold (19C) doesn't matter as you can warm up in the the lovely saunas and the warm pool. It's got an awesome Stockholm archipelago feeling and view, and even a family of merganser birds (skrake). We loved the gym and the restaurant was nice. Great breakfast too!Guest review byHultmanSweden - 8.0

Cute little cottage with perfect amount of space for a family of four to stay for a weekend. Well stocked kitchen, great outdoor space for playing. Big drawback was lack of blackout blinds on the windows so putting kids to bed before the sun went down (which is pretty late in summer) was difficult.Guest review byAubrey - 10.0

Vaxholm is the gateway to the Stockholm archipelago, so visiting other islands via ferry is easy. Vaxholm itself is very interesting and worth at least a couple days. If you plan on island hopping (day trips from Vaxholm), then figure an additional day per island. If you don't have time to day trip, then definitely take a boat tour to just get a feel for this gorgeous archipelago. It's stunning.Guest review byDeniseFrance - 10.0

Sahdhamn is a beautiful island at the edge of the archipelago, so please note it can get a bit windy since there are very few islands protecting it from the sea. There are trails criss-crossing the island, so it’s easy to hike around and since it’s not very big there is no risk for getting lost. During the winter most restaurants and shops are closed, but Sandhamn Seglarhotell is open and they have delicious food. The island is transformed during the summer months with lots of people, party and a much wider range of restaurants to choose from. So, depending on what you are after, choose the season to visit Sandhamn carefully. ;-)Guest review bySandraSweden - 10.0
This was an absolutely beautiful place.
This was an absolutely beautiful place. Great value for money, insanely good food? Idk I wasn't expecting swedish food to be so good, the nightly barbecue was absolutely a highlight. Also kayaking, ice cream, hiking drinks, this place has everything.Guest review byKatieUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Varmdo is a district of 10 000 islands with few towns or villages to wander around or give a sense of place and culture. It has beautiful scenery, lakes, inlets, beaches, woods and farms which made it ideal for hiking and it would have been great for cycling as well as none of the inclines were too steep or too long. There are some beautiful nature reserves such as Bjorno and Sandarna which make the amazing bistro Bjorkvik a good place to pop in for food and drink. The boat services are generally good, but it's not easy to locate information about what is running and when - even Google struggled to find where the information was hidden and repeatedly gave best guesses! If you want to explore quaint villages, pop into shops, trip over a cute cafe for a snack or engage with locals, then Varmdo is not the place for you. If you want to explore nature, hardly see a soul, wild swim, trek through forests past ancient burial mounds and occasionally see people fishing or sailing in the lakes, then add the district to your plans.Guest review byMatthewUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Vaxholm is great place to base yourself for hopping out to the more remote parts of the archipelago, as many of the ferries from Stockholm stop here before fanning out into the islands. There is a small range of cafes and restaurants, and the Thai Restaurant is particulalry good value and very friendly. The backstreets are well worth an explore, and it is only a short walk south over the bridge to the nature reserve. When the weather is good, it is simply stunning. We loved the Castle, too.Guest review bySimonUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Loved Saltsjobaden. Faurly small, Calm, peaceful. We had several different walks around the Peninsula areas. Very scenic. Liked that we found 3 good places to eat and drink, the Grand Hotel, the Var Gard Hiotel and Holmens bar bistro on the harbour Would like to come back and stay a few days longer forvacrelaxjng break.Guest review byTravel 100United Kingdom - 10.0
