All staff were very friendly and always attentive. Breakfast was lovely - coffee with an amazing view and the choices on the menu great, out favorite was the salmon/pea puree toast, yummy! We also hit the bar a couple of times and burger, brisket & chicken sandwich were excellent - paired with craft beer on tap. We enjoyed the pool as well as the lake nearby where we did stand up paddling. There are numerous hiking trails leaving right from the resort - again, beautiful scenery, all well marked. The room was a standard size, two comfy beds and a completely remodeled, modern bathroom. We stayed in 322 - nice mountain view yet the view on the other side is even better. Winthrop is an idyllic little town with many eclectic boutiques and good restaurant options - our favorite by far was Jupiter. So all in all - highly recommendable to stay at the lodge. There a number of highly critical reviews and we were honestly rather skeptical when driving up to the lodge. Seattle for us was a welcome escape from Florida heat. Fortunately the Seattle weather was clear, cool and beautiful. Pike Street Market would take three days to explore every nook and cranny. We took a walking foodie tour of the market and would recommend that for visitors., The aquarium and the waterfront were also fun to visit. If I had come earlier in the fall when the weather was better two nights at the hotel with time to explore Hurricane Ridge would have been my preference. I only live 30 min north of Vancouver, my reason for visiting was my pets and 4th of July noise. If you are visiting the Portland Or/Vancouver area, the Vancouver side of the river is just less crowded than the Portland side. For a very good meal, Little Italy downtown Vancouver has been one of my favorites for several years great food and good people. Visiting especially down town Portland, I would recommend driving to the Van Port park and ride then take the yellow line train into down town, way easier and cheaper than paying for parking downtown. If it is raining go to the expo center park and ride, it's the end of the line there is always a train there so you can wait inside the train. In Portland, every one uses the train.
