Miyajima
Japanese-style rooms feature a tatami (woven mat) floor and shoji sliding paper screens. Some rooms offer tranquil views of the Seto Inland Sea. They are fitted with an LCD TV, a mini-fridge and traditional futon beds. An en suite bathroom and yukata robes are provided. Amazing experience in a traditional style with a modern comfort. The hotel is located in a quiet place ~20 mins walk from the ferry port. It may sound far but the hotel provides the shuttle bus as often as you need. We were prepared for the ryokan rules about the shoes, so it wasn’t a surprise for us. The traditional room is very beautiful, clean, looks better in real life than on the pictures. Nice view from the window, I even saw an eagle on the tree. The hotel staff is extremely polite and helpful. Usually the staff set up the bed after the dinner but they set it up for me when I asked for a day nap. The dinner and breakfast servings is extraordinarily. Nice choice of exclusive souvenirs, especially loved the Momiji manju cookies, the ones from the hotel are MUCH better than the ones from the shopping street. In general, I highly recommend to stay here at least for 1-2 night for better exploration of Miyajima without rush.

Certain rooms include an en suite bathroom. Toiletries and slippers are provided for in the private and shared bathroom. All good, Onsen, bedroom shower. The japanese dinner and breakfast was included. All very fresh, but too many oysters for me😁. Great place to stay on the island for one night but be aware that all is shut on the island once it gets dark. They collected our luggage on the first day so we could tour the town and climb Mt Misen. Then we got an early free shuttle to get the ferry in the morning. All great.

The staff were really helpful, kind and friendly. The Onsen was good. The traditional tatami mat and futon experience was much more comfortable than I had expected, and for a family of four the room was perfect size. The breakfast was unique and delicious.
There was a wide range of amenities, hot spring, and the restaurant food was lovely we very much enjoyed our dinner and the staff were wonderful. We had a tatami style room and it was lovely of the staff to set up the futon whilst we had dinner. There were Yukatas to borrow for our stay as well and that was lovely.
This charming ryokan style hotel was like stepping back in time. Like others have mentioned, the hotel is dated, but it is well maintained and very clean. The view from the rooms out to the sea is lovely and futon beds very comfortable. The food was excellent and service exceptional. We enjoyed using the onsen facilities and rocking round in our yakuta. The shuttle service from the port was also very handy. We had a memorable stay and loved our time on Miyajima.
Very beautiful ryokan. The yukata. The onsen. Very clean. Polite staff. A nice experience of traditional ryokan.
Miyajima is so beautiful! The hotel is right on the main walkway looking towards the water, so really easy to find from the ferry. It's. Beautiful traditional Ryokan with Tatami floors and futons and a public bath, which after a long day travelling or sightseeing was bliss! The staff were so friendly and helpful, with recommendations for dinner and helping us catch the bus to the beach for a cool off! My favourite place in Japan so far!
A nice thing is the Onsen in the hotel and that the rooms are in Japanese style with futons and tatami. The location is really convenient to get around the island and back to the mainland.
Simple Ryokan style, tatami matting, lovely view from balcony with comfortable chairs, friendly helpful staff. Basement onsen is a nice extra (open till 11pm).
We loved Sakuraya! Our room was large, clean, had a view of the ocean, yukata's for the onsen. We had green tea in our room while sitting on the tatami mat. It was a wonderful experience and we slept well! It was so close to the shrine and places to eat. And the lady at the front desk was so sweet and helpful! We will definitely stay here again!!
The most comfortable beds we encountered in Japan. The room was a perfect blend of hotel room and ryokan room, with comfortable beds in a carpeted room which aslo contained a raised traditional tatami sitting room which could be closed off from the sleeping area by sliding doors, perfect for a family stay where some people could stay up after the others have gone to bed. There are 2 onsen (hot baths), male and female, plus a warm water stream with seating for a relaxing foot bath at the end of the day.
The dinner and breakfast were outstanding, the onsen was lovely and getting a yukata to wear during our stay was a great experience. The Ryokan is a small walk outside of the main town meaning the area was quiet and not overrun with tourists. A free shuttle to and from the ferry terminal is offered to help with transport.
